In the grand mansion of the Jia family in the capital city, the young master Jia Baoyu was in love with his cousin Lin Daiyu. However, their love was not accepted by their parents. The Jia family devised a plan to deceive Baoyu and arranged for him to marry Xue Baochai, the daughter of the Xue family in Jinling. Thinking that Baoyu had transferred his affections to someone else, Daiyu was heartbroken and eventually passed away in sorrow.
